178 // ALIENS: Special Edition vs. Theatrical - A Roundtable
Monday Dec 06, 2021
Monday Dec 06, 2021
Aliens: Special Edition was a thing of mystery for many years before it saw a formal release on Laser Disc in 1991. In the interim, many of us remembered specific scenes we weren't sure were real until James Cameron gave his seal of approval on his original vision. In this roundtable episode, Jaime, Patrick, Christian, Andie, and Perry sit down to discuss the merits of the special edition, and how they stack up against the theatrical release. Is one version superior than the other? We attempt to answer this question and more. Join us.
This will be the last episode of 2022 until January 4th. We wish all of you a very Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays.

Love the input from the team as a whole of the review of the SE of the movie.

The Hudson’s scenes where his bravado is in our face I think is such a glimpse into our deep rooted fears which this creature arises. The whole mentality of having Colonial Marines shaken to their core is a vivid physical representation of the seriousness and enormity of how big of a danger and challenge the Aliens are. And no body within the Marines brings this to light other than Hudson.

I think the special edition version of the movie answers questions which when the theatrical releases came out but there was nothing in a video format which shared this information with us the fans. There is an audio book called: “River of Pain.” Which is the story mode of Hadley’s Hope before the events of the movie Aliens. Which would be such a good movie as a prequel by itself to Aliens. This said, out of all the Alien movies Aliens is by far my favorite.
